Singaporean actress Rebecca Lim is a vision of beauty, sunshine, and grace. How does she do it? By Tan Lili
“Happiness is way too underrated,” says Rebecca Lim. “I constantly remind myself to be thankful for what I have.” The Singaporean actress, who is about to turn 29 later this month, comes across as one of the more down-to-earth, unassuming personalities on local TV. Coupled with her natural beauty as well as her dedication to her acting career, it’s easy to see why Rebecca is widely regarded as a role model for many young girls. Most recently, she was announced as the ambassador for Australian multivitamin brand Swisse after taking Swisse Ultiboost Hair, Skin, Nailsfor more than two years. Below, Rebecca lets us in on her secrets to staying happy and healthy.
Material World (MW): What is your definition of a good life?
Rebecca Lim (RL): A good life is a life with filled with love, health, and a thankful heart. I think that to live a good life, you must take all the opportunities presented to you, no matter how big or small. In the end, these opportunities might end up having a bigger impact on your life than you had imagined. Also, always count your blessings!
MW: What are some of your secrets to having a healthy, happy life?
RL: For me, one of the top secrets to living a healthy, happy life is to exercise whenever you can. It’s a great stress release too! Exercising releases endorphins in your body, making you feel great after a good workout. Most people would think this is a cliché, but smiling and being confident definitely helps. Accept who you are and be confident with yourself. And smile about it!
MW: What kind of changes have you noticed in your appearance since you started taking Swisse Ultiboost Hair, Skin, Nails two years ago?
RL: My sister brought back Swisse Ultiboost Hair, Skin, Nails from Australia, two years ago. When I first tried it, I didn’t see any improvements at first since it wasn’t an immediate thing. I think it took around two weeks before I started to see improvements in my hair, skin, and nails. I started noticing that my hair wasn’t falling out as often as before or breaking easily. I tend to use a hot iron on my hair when I’m filming, which resulted in a lot of damage to my hair. MW: Please share with us some of your beauty tips.
RL: First, it’s important to have a beauty regime that you stick to every day. If you only end up doing it every now and then, you wouldn’t see the effects of your beauty regime as much as if you did it daily.
Second, remember to cleanse, tone, and moisturise. It’s very important that at the end of the day, we remember to remove our makeup thoroughly. If I end up falling asleep on the couch from a tired day and forget to remove my makeup (which I absolutely always regret), I will try to compensate by applying a hydrating mask to moisturise my skin.
Third, use sunblock! No matter how hidden the sun may be, UV rays still penetrate clouds and can damage your skin. As I’m very particular with my skin, I apply sunblock whenever I go out of the house.
Another tip would be to not apply hair products and makeup during your off days and to simply let your hair and skin breathe. It’s good to leave your hair and skin product-free whenever you can. Last of all, if you plan on styling your hair or getting it styled, try to apply serum beforehand for an added layer of protection.
A bonus tip for those who want glowing skin: drink lots of water! Staying hydrated works wonders for your health and beauty. I actually try to drink at least 1.5 litres of water to keep myself hydrated throughout the day.
